Acquaintance Party

What is an Acquaintance Party? When I was in college, in was never a big deal for me. It was just an event, where people get together and dress up to impress. I attended the acquaintance party for extra points or attendance check.

But now, I am an instructor myself, I find myself in the shoes of my teachers before where they really require the attendance for extra points. And the tradition of welcoming the first year students of the college. I understand how important the participation of the students in this event. Otherwise, it would not be such fun.

It was my first time to be able to enjoy the party. After I performed a song number together with my 2 teachers, it shows that students admire teachers. They want to see the other side of us aside from rattling inside the classroom. It was an overwhelming experience to see their happy faces as we did the number.

Now I understand that students need that party because they cannot get wild when they re in the classroom. It was their time and I was so happy to see them enjoy.

I am looking forward to the next acquaintance party and give the students the break they really need. Ad for me, to also enjoy it, I need to part of it. Til next year's acquaintance party. Welcome first years!

Julie and Julia Movie Review

I thought I will just be clicking the forward button of the remote control for this movie to finish. But I ended up sitting in the sofa on a rainy Thursday night for almost 2 hours. I'm supposed to do something for work but I need to reward myself for a while by watching downloaded movies. (Thanks to torrent).

Well, anyway, there are three things I want to stress in this movie that caught my admiration not only for my newly loved actress after her performance in Bridges of Madison County, Merryl Streep, but the realizations that I have made as the movie was unfolding.

First, how well the movie blended two different worlds. The Julia of the 1940s and the Julie of the 2000s . Also, the transition of the technology was also significant. The instruments used for cooking 50 years ago and the improved microwave ovens of today, the sending of letters and emails, the cooking from conventional to the instant foods of today, and of course who would not notice the typewriter and the laptop. I can't even imagine myself writing my blog in a typewriter and sending this thru air mail.

It is a movie that inspires us women to really learn how to cook beyond the ordinary. That the only way to a man's heart is through its stomach. How we would love our husbands excitement when they say 'what's for dinner? ' and the way their expressions show when they eat delicious foods is an envy that I wished I could make some and eat some.

It is also gratifying to note that we recieve good tips and wise choices for cooking today that before. And this inspires me to buy a cook book maybe tomorrow!

The last point that I want to stress in this movie is my admiration for their husbands. The support they got from their love for cooking and writing. It's nice to know that both Julie and Julia have good husbands that despite their desperation for cooking and writing, the husbands still comfort them. I had anticipated for break ups but I was glad it did not come.

And one more thing, we'll blogging has become a trend. Maybe for some its for income add-ons and for some just self-fulfillment but it's nice that we have this blog to share some thoughts and feelings that we want to share with other people we do not know. And I am just so happy to be starting this.

So that's it. I would want you to watch this movie if you want to relax and get inspired in cooking and blogging.

And hey, one last note. What's surprising in this movie is that this is base from the book written by Julie Powell herself!

bon-a-petit everyone.
